Northwell is Meh - Ancillary Support Associate Northwell Health Employee Review

Pros

-The position as an ASA in the ED easy, you just need to talk to people while navigating the jungle that is the ED where beds and ultrasound machines/EKG machines/X Ray machines are running you over, along with the patients' visitors having their legs out while sitting in the hallway.

Cons

-The ED is small, understaffed, under-payed, under-equipped for a large volume of patients that come in. Northwell would rather build high schools and more buildings rather than funding their own units with better equipment and more staff with more pay.

Thank you for sharing your comments. At Northwell, the needs of our patients and team members come first, as we strive to raise the standard of care for both and deliver outstanding care to the communities we serve. This includes leveraging the latest technology and equipment, and planning for our future workforce so we can meet the healthcare needs of our communities today and in the future. One example is our partnership with New York City Public Schools to design a career-focused high school that will help prepare students for well-paying careers in healthcare and address local education and healthcare talent needs—part of a first-of-its-kind initiative led by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Pros

Office setting; nice people, cafeteria

Cons

Overworked and severely underpaid, short staffed for the amount of patients they intake to the program (on the clinician side and administrative), very low pay for administrative workers, little to no real benefits (PTO is not front loaded but trickled in: 1 hour accumulated per pay period - it would take about 4 months to accumulate 1 full day of PTO. Sick time is a similar trickle system so you end up taking a lot of unpaid time until you can’t), due to that it’s impossible to not get burnt out. The union also hasn’t negotiated a good contract if these conditions exist for those at the basic level. Food in the cafeteria is not great and sometimes gives people the runs. Also it’s expensive (full price despite working for the org; they cannot even give discounts which is weird considering how much the CEO makes and how little we do). Feel abandoned and not properly compensated. Deeply exhausted.
