Pros
The Light Times: NuSil started out as a really awesome place to work and to gain experience. I was able to work my way up from an hourly position to a decently paid exempt position. I had many great mentors and opportunities to work on projects and expand my education. That basically ended in 2017 when the dark times began.
Cons
The Dark Times: Avantor is an absolutely terrible company. The merger was part of the typical private equity blueprint. Acquire, strip down labor, halt capital investment, curtail R&D in order to show short term "efficiency" or "synergy" gains to generate the perception of a well run company that can be sold to the public. The acquistion of VWR was just more of the same, it could not have happened and continued to happen without the massive cashflow generation from the NuSil entity. Every single dollar that NuSil makes now goes into funding junk bonds that Avantor sold in order to buy VWR. But why should they care? Stubblefield got his $13M, and in 2-3 years when he hits the road he won't have to deal with the aftermath of the decisions he made to get himself his golden parachute. And on top of all of that they do not care about anyone that doesn't fit into their little box. Quality of work doesn't matter. Dedication doesn't matter. Merit doesn't matter. There are still some really awesome individual contributors at NuSil and they go overlooked in favor of LDS cronies. It is the only explanation for a plant manager having 2 fires and an explosion within the first year of their employ and NOT getting fired. NuSil makes a great line of products that truly help people with super high margins essentially guaranteed by government regulations and they give nothing back to the community or the employees. And God help you if you are a real person and not an BYU manufactured automaton.
