Pros

Decent salary and basic package for the Worcestershire area usual phone and laptop setup for a sales role. However, I did get a company car which for what was essentially an inbound telesales role is strange but I wasn’t complaining. Wyre Forest Council restaurant opposite Free onsite parking The only real pro that was recurrent throughout the business was the location as the vast majority of staff lived in the Kidderminster/Stourport area. This isn’t a bad thing, however it was the only consistent positive that I heard about OGL throughout my time working there.

Cons

A clear mismatch between the job which I was advised I would be taking and the earning potential which was on offer and what I was ultimately presented with. The worst recruitment practice I have ever witnessed which resulted in the majority of people who joined the business at the same time as me leaving within 3 months. Irregular, unplanned and generally ludicrous training. I could write an essay on this but I would rather not remind myself of the 6 weeks of my life which I wasted. Zero respect for work life balance, no flexi time or remote working available. Contracted hours of work were 08:45-17:30 however when I didn’t arrive early or stay late I was asked what my problem was? Incredibly archaic and outdated business environment and practices. OGL’s primary way of generating new business was to print out copies of names and numbers and to cold call them with a pen and highlighter…. Appalling management, the environment in the one team which I worked in was horrendous. I would be surprised if anyone was left in the team as anyone with any self-respect wouldn’t tolerate the constant belittling and bully culture that was present in the team. Even after being in the role 4 months I hadn’t had any official commission or bonus structure discussed with me despite asking a number of times. Simply vague ball park figures of what I could be earning in a few years’ time.

Pros

Watch terrible managers in their natural habitat and learn exactly what not to do when you eventually escape. You'll collect plenty of horror stories and "what not to do" examples for future interviews. Your ego will be regularly crushed by incompetent decisions from above, keeping you very grounded.

Cons

Constant stress, anxiety, and burnout become the norm rather than the exception. Dealing with toxicity, favouritism, gaslighting, and backstabbing. Below-market pay, stingy benefits, or "we're a family" excuses when asking for raises. Good people leave constantly, leaving you with even more work and a revolving door of panicked new hires. An environment that is great for building character and funny war stories, but terrible for your career trajectory, happiness, and long-term well-being.
