Potential teachers beware - Teacher Oak Learners Employee Review

Most of the people who work here are very nice. The children are nice too, and the work is rewarding and interesting.

As nice as the place is, it's unfortunately a mess. Training on policies and procedures is ineffective, and what those policies are seems to be the whim of the rather temperamental principal, who seems to have an inner circle of people who are secure, while everyone else has to deal with insecure expectations, hours and job security. There isn't anything in the way of HR (due to its size) or procedures to follow that are normal parts of employment, such as progressive discipline or scheduling by seniority. So you can find what was your work replaced without warning by new hires, with no discussion with you about what about your performance may have warranted this, or way to raise grievances about such practices. As another review said, staff often buy their own supplies without being reimbursed for them. You'll often be sweet talked out of doing anything about this because it's a not-for-profit, and they'll be cash strapped at the moment, and eventually you'll forget about it. Staff turnover is high, I'd say people last about 2 years. People often leave for "stress" related reasons and don't come back, get "laid off" (or fired), or simply leave, with rumours swirling about why. I think people realize what a mess they're in and find something else and just disappear.

Kelly is phenomenal and runs the school for all the right reasons. She is incredibly supportive of her staff and always happy to share her knowledge and expertise.

A small and busy school, but a still a great fit for teachers who want one on one time with their kids.
