Pros

- Access to wide range of EVs to test drive - OK as a 1st job or to build experience

Cons

- You are just another number in a call centre focused on hitting a daily number - Targets are not achievable anymore, recruiters may tell you there are - but this is not the case anymore as the team has expanded so much but the offering and number of high quality leads has not kept u. (don't expect to earn more 25-50% of the advertised OTE) - low level of autonomy unless you are in a non client facing role - The Team is led by someone with no experience, knowledge or passion for EVs and offers little aside from trying to implement a script or set phrases into everyone's calls / asking people why they have not called unresponsive contacts 3 times in one day - Weekend working has previously been offered for people to catch up on targets, this has been unpaid (we were given a food voucher in lieu of payment), kind of sums up the culture. - Unofficial Promotions made without due process or opportunity, and then the playing field is not level as they are also given the chance for sales not offered to the average EV seller - Constantly having to deal with cancellations of orders, which could be months after taking the order - further adds to pressure and difficulty hitting targets

My name is Ollie and I lead all of the growth teams here at Octopus EV. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this review. The most important part of my role is to to create an amazing culture in which people are able to thrive and enjoy working here. It sounds like this isn’t the case for yourself at the moment which is really disappointing, this is not how I want things to be. We’re a rapidly growing business which creates a really exciting space to work, it also means we definitely make mistakes along the way. Feedback like this is really valuable, we really encourage all feedback - we survey all team members once a week to find out how things are going and on a personal, less formal, basis I am always keen to make time to catch up and find out how things are going. In terms of some of the specifics in your review. We have had some tough months where not everyone has hit their full target and earnt full commission, there are people who are consistently achieving this though. We have a really flexible culture with unlimited holidays, flexible hours and full hybrid working to share some elements of how we work. No one has been asked to work weekends without pay, this is always fully optional. With unlimited holidays you are always able to take an additional day off if you do decide to work at a weekend. For many, I know. they really enjoy the EV expert sales role, it sounds like this isn’t how it is going for you. I’d love to find out more, please do reach out to me, I’d love to grab a coffee together and talk more. Ollie Boots Chief Commercial Office, Octopus EV

Pros

Great benefits Lovely people Social events Inclusive culture Monday and Friday free lunches in London Nice office Positive goals for the environment etc.

Cons

Octopus used to be a great place to work, but many staff members have since left and it's not the same. External hiring brought in poor management, and culture changed dramatically, with the senior leadership team having little training and bad communication. The company would be a much better place to work if it had HR. A lack of HR has led to poor handling of situations, and staff are left unable to raise issues. Most complaints are about management, but management are the ceiling. It can be quite cult-like, with staff who have worked there a long time unable to take criticism against the company. Progression is poor unless you are a favourite, and have never spoken up about issues before. I've given 3 stars as for the most part, working there was enjoyable, but the customer success team as a whole is not a team you want to join.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We’re really glad you enjoyed the office vibes, the team, and our mission, those things are the heartbeat of what we do. We totally hear you on how much we’ve changed. Scaling fast is a wild ride, and while we’re always aiming to get better, we know our culture is a bit "all-in" and might not be the right fit for everyone. On the HR front, we definitely do things differently. We don't have a traditional HR department because we believe that everyone at Octopus works in HR; we want every person to feel a direct responsibility to look after one another rather than offloading that care to a separate team. It’s a unique way of working that relies on open communication, and we’re sorry to hear it felt like there was a ceiling during your time here. Regarding progression, we’re actually super proud of our track record for internal growth, we have so many examples of people moving across the business and rising through the ranks. We’re always looking for ways to make those pathways even clearer for everyone. We really appreciate you speaking up, as it helps us keep an eye on how we can better support our people as we grow. Wishing you nothing but the best in your next role! Alys Peart - Director of Employee Experience
