Pros
There is never a moment where you are alone in a situation since day one there has always been someone there to offer help, but that doesn't mean we aren't always encouraged to use our initiative to find the answer first. There has never been a situation where I felt I was treated as a number, not a person. My managers have always been super understanding and really got to know me, to know how to push me in the right ways and where to support me when needed. We really try to make sure every member feels supported whilst always being challenged to make things better and this goes for all roles. It's a place where you are not only supported by your direct line manager, you are supported by your team members, other team managers, other operational managers, other site leads, etc. I have always felt part of something working here, we are always trying to improve the industry and stand out from what's currently going on and this has never been lost. I like that the main reason we do what we do, is we want to show that Energy Suppliers can be better, be renewable, help save the planet whilst never dropping that the customer always comes first. Lastly, the opportunities I have had whilst working here are opportunities I would have never expected to have when I started as an energy specialist and I doubt I would have got at any other company starting at an entry-level.
Cons
The only downside personally, is I am super passionate in making sure that I have done the best for our customers and team members, and there's never a point where the work is all done, this does lead to me having to have worked really hard to make sure I have the right work to life balance and does make it hard to switch off, as Octopus is a massive part of my life. This was difficult for the first year or so but I also understood that the work put in was needed at the time and this wasn't a case of just myself, we work as a team to put in extra effort when needed.
