Pros

In all terminals (tanking facilities) and in the corporate office in downtown Houston there is a chef on staff and employees are provided lunch everyday. The kitchen in downtown is beautiful and we all sit and eat together. Oiltanking being a mid-size company with about 600 employees in the US is very family oriented. When I walk around the corporate office I know everyone's name and they all know mine. It's a home away from home. I am not just a number. My work matters and I take complete ownership. I am at more of an entry level position and I can go talk to a senior VP comfortably. The CEO, Ken Owen knows everyone's name and how long they have worked at Oiltanking. Work/life balance. We have flexible scheduling as long as we are at work during peak hours. If something comes up we can normally always make up for time missed that is reasonable. We work the 9/80 schedule so we are off every other Friday :) There are always company sponsored events that are so much fun! They are never stuffy and everyone has a great time! They always have great gifts for the employees at all events. If we have to attend some kind of mandatory meeting, we are always given some token of appreciation. The wellness committee does many events with great gifts and door prizes. We have had a wellness speaker, yoga with free Oiltanking yoga mats, massages, game month where we had all kinds of games at lunch, and many others. We have competitive salaries and great benefits.

Cons

Some of the processes here are outdated, but that offers a lot of growth for someone that likes to make improvements. Oiltanking has flown under the radar on purpose since it's been in business. The best way to get in is knowing someone. We did just start recruiting efforts since the company is growing so much, but the brand is not really out there. Our website is very bland and does not give a true representation of the company culture. A lot of people don't know what Oiltanking is and it is very hard to find a lot of information about the company unless you know someone that works here.

Cons

I went in temp to hire. A few months in I realized the lady's desk I was in is on pregnancy leave. I did my best and was promised a job multiple times by upper management. Oh but wait! About a week before Christmas they let me know they will be letting me go around the new year. Very easy job but after time I realized the people in there had ties to get in in the first place. My advice to you is really feel it out and see whose spot your taking and why they aren't in it. If a non manpower job calls take it! Or run the risk of job searching after there done with you. Oh and wanna hear a joke? Dealing with unemployment through manpower. Management is nice but it is socially divided like middle earth and they think they are above the workers by miles. Remember they do most of the hiring through a temp service so everybody is screwed up one way or another. Good job but I hope I won't be in such a spot to work through a temp service again. Oh but don't worry they are going to call me ASAP if someone dies leaves gets fired or they expand. So I'll hold My breath
