Pros

Work culture is fantastic. I made some very good friends and felt supported in all my responsibilities.

Cons

The microscope on the state budget means that state government employers (across the board) can't offer small perks commonplace in most offices. We had to pool our money to have coffee, pay increases were non-existent, and pay was not very competitive. We lost several staff to the private sector. This isn't the Court's fault, I blame the voters of Oklahoma and the legislature for wanting sub-par government services. Still, the AOC got very creative with their budgeting solutions and made the best with what they had.

Pros

State benefits are good. Time off, health care and retirement are great. The pay compared to other state jobs is good too. Management has made some attempts to improve the culture.

Cons

Upper management is not good at all. Time management, support and progress is terrible. They micromanage where unnecessary, but are terrible about communicating important information like open positions, when someone is leaving or when big changes are sent out statewide. There is a general lack of autonomy to do your job without having to clear almost every decision through every person in the group and everyone wants to put their opinion in. Part of why nothing ever gets accomplished. There is no Human Resources support for issues or problems or help for professional development. Moving up or receiving raises is nearly impossible because there is no evaluation system and very little communicated about how that can happen or what could be worked on to do that. If the slow paced work and lack of accomplishment doesn't get you down, having assigned parking, no paper towels except in bathroom, no tissues for your desk, no supplies unless begged for and three emails sent about it will surely do the trick.
