Pros

1) One Capital offers you the opportunity to work alongside the brightest minds in the industry. 2) The office environment is unrivalled in a South African, and in fact, international, context. The workspaces have been designed with every aspect carefully considered and offer all employees a place to work in complete comfort. The business continuity measures in terms of internet connection, backup power and water mean that employees are never disturbed by external factors. 3) Management provide constant support to staff and the open door policy across the organisation allows for easy engagement with the senior people around you. 4) Training and guidance provided to employees is top class. 5) Remuneration levels are well above industry benchmarks and the bonus structure allows for sustainable long-term benefit for employees. 6) A culture of continuous improvement and evolution amongst the team means that all employees are afforded the opportunity to grow professionally and reap the rewards thereof. I could not recommend working at One Capital highly enough.

Cons

I have experienced no "Cons" working at One Capital. Management is very clear during the recruitment and interview process around the expectations of the company, and the broader corporate finance industry. Hard work and hours put in by individual team members are always rewarded.

Pros

- Quite decent salary - Central to the North of Johannesburg - Nice looking offices

Cons

- There is no HR department so all disputes are settled with the employee/manager/director involved - Graduates are subject to a RESTRAINT OF TRADE (which should be illegal because what do they know about the industry - they are just starting out) - The company tends to put quite heavy lock-ins on employees to disencourage them from leaving the company - For four months in a row we were paid late and no communication was made as to why - Directors and management are rude to staff even going as far as using profanity in work-related discussions - Management seems clueless on things that they should be experts at

Pros

Nothing at all, as in like nothing.

Cons

-Horrible working hours, you will hardly have time anything outside work and this happens almost on a daily basis, you will find yourself cancelling a lot of your personal appointments. - The management is so rude, literally your self confidence and esteem will be tempered with, - Delivery on work will always be prioritised over your health.

One Capital Advisory Response

Thank you for the feedback, your concerns have been noted. One Capital acknowledges that any role within the corporate finance advisory / investment banking services industry requires long working hours (including occasionally over weekends when transactions have client and regulatory deadlines that have to be achieved) and generally a high workload exists. However, this is proactively disclosed to future employees, both during the multiple interviews held and also specifically referenced in great detail in employment contracts/offers, ensuring that employees have a very clear understanding of the industry and its demands, prior to accepting an employment offer. Interviews with all candidates are conducted by a minimum of 4 experienced team members representing One Capital (all of whom have been with the Company for at least 6 years), to provide every future employee with a very accurate view of the working environment and industry requirements, especially working hours. However, the industry also handsomely rewards its participants over time, i.e., for the necessary sacrifices made and the effort put into a person’s professional development, once a certain level of experience and skill has been developed by a professional. All employees are afforded ample opportunity to engage with management and to discuss concerns around workloads and project allocation whereby work may be reallocated to support employees who are genuinely struggling. It is unfortunate that the concerns raised, and sentiments expressed in this public review, were not highlighted by you during numerous internal discussions held and feedback received from you as part of the exit interview process. We note that you were also given an opportunity to step away from a particularly demanding transaction, which you declined and then specifically requested to remain on this deal team. We are also surprised to hear your very negative sentiments about the firm, whereas in your resignation letter you expressed very positive feedback and described your time with One Capital as a highly rewarding experience for which you were truly grateful. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and we trust you will find a career path better suited to your aspirations.
