Medical Transcriptionist - Medical Transcriptionist Oracle Transcription Employee Review

Pros

Good IT personnel and management to assist employees. Opportunities to learn other areas of medical specialty in transcription if so desired or needed. Standard and uniform protocols and standard operating procedures for company are in place. Flexible schedule.

Cons

Must work approximately 50 hours per week to make any measurable income. On-site employers pay at least three times as much for experienced medical transcriptionists and quality assurance personnel. The starting rate of pay per line at Mercedes Transcription is 1/2 cent less than the usual low-end starting pay for other national medical transcription companies. A good side job if you are seeking to work from home. Not a good position to help build your career and move upward.

Pros

Great flexibility, particularly for part-timers. Pay is about average and absolutely on time every time. Tech support is very good with a good internet based transcription platform too.

Cons

Like many transcription companies, there isn't always enough work to go around. Communication could be a bit better.

Pros

This was originally Oracle Transcription when I started. There was good training, good communication, and IT help available for any software problems. However, the owners of Oracle split up, and part of Oracle became Mercedes Transcription. This resulted in loss of accounts and lowered pay if you were on the Mercedes side of the deal, which I was. Difficult to earn much at 0.65 cents/line, while many transcription companies pay 9 cents/line. Still, pros were that it was mostly daytime to early evening work, Monday through Friday, with some work on Saturdays.

Cons

Sometimes overburdened with work; other times, little work available. Had to work on several different accounts across different specialties plus hospital, etc., in order to have enough work. Like many transcription companies, you are an independent contractor and there are no benefits or perks.
