Pros

The interview process was professional and intriguing- they got me really excited to join. Since joining, this has quickly become my favorite place I’ve ever worked. The people are incredible, the meetings are efficient and productive, the work is interesting and fun. The quality of the Oura ring is superb, which makes my job as a researcher / machine learning scientist motivating and fun. The company is passionate about improving the health and lives of our users, so the projects I’m working on feel really meaningful and will hopefully impact a lot of people. When job hunting, my offers were between Google, Apple, Facebook, and Oura, and Oura won out easily due to the great people, fun projects to work on, and the competitive compensation package.

Cons

Everything software/DS seems to be heading towards being permanently remote due to covid (which could be a pro or a con depending on your preferences...) Also, the benefits are not quite what big tech companies offer (e.g. no 401k in 2020).

Pros

Great benefits, growing company with lots of opportunities.

Cons

Management struggles to align on priorities, which creates a constantly shifting environment with unclear direction and success metrics. Teams are often given contradictory guidance or asked to pivot without context, making it difficult to execute effectively or plan with confidence. There is also a concerning pattern in how feedback is handled. Feedback often appears to be based on assumptions rather than concrete examples or evidence. When employees raise reasonable concerns or ask for clarity, it is sometimes reframed as negativity or labeled as contributing to a “toxic environment.” This shifts focus away from the underlying issues such as lack of alignment and communication and places it on individuals instead. Over time, this dynamic discourages open dialogue and reduces trust. Teams become more focused on managing perception than delivering outcomes, which ultimately impacts morale, efficiency, and overall performance.
