Decent for a chain, high tip out - Server/Waiter Outback Steakhouse Employee Review

Pros

Flexible schedule, easy hours, used to be decent money but I'm sure as with most places the location is key

Cons

Best money shifts will generally put you working nights, weekends and holidays. Management can be a big factor in how enjoyable or not any given shift or location is. The training platform for the continuing or recurring training classes (bbiuniversity I think its called) is a dumpster fire Unless they've fixed it recently the tip out (what you pay out of your pocket) is ridiculous 6.5 % of total sales plus bar tip out on alcohol sales is already steep but then keep in mind that for the first and last hour of a late or closing shift your entire support staff is gone and you are stll paying out 6.5 % (plus bar tip out). In my experience when they switched to the new system I averaged about $3 net (after all tip out etc.) in tips per customer when I was at about $4.25 per customer before.

Pros

The store level can be a really rewarding experience, I come to work and genuinely enjoy my job and coworkers.

Cons

Hovering corporate can be a headache. You don't have a say on which location you are sent to after training just a consideration of your location and commute. The bonus system is lacking with metrics that are hard to obtain and only quarterly. Raises are hardly cost of living wages and seniority isnt rewarded as new managers typically come in making as much if not more than senior managers.
