Pros

Some coworkers are very nice and willing to help you and show you how they do their jobs. I added the second star for some of the amazing people that work there.

Cons

- They were paying $15 when I worked there, they now pay $16. You can make more at In n Out. - Their whole basis on why you should PA for them is that they will train you and develop your skillset. This was not true for me. When I first arrived, I asked to shadow people and was obliged but didn't receive the formal training the other PA did but I chalked it up to us having different paths. During my time there, I would ask everyone what they were doing, and if they could show me if they had time. I got to sit in on people working sometimes and see the processes, but only because coworkers were very nice, not because management initiated it. - When a coworker got promoted, I was told that I wasn't doing enough and "people don't want to teach you when you don't show any interest" from the President of the company. Which was a shock given that I went out of my way to ask everyone questions and ask them to explain their job functions to me, DAILY. When I asked about training for the path they said they saw me on they said that there was no path, but you can't just jump from PA to Producer, so ??? - I asked a Producer, who trained the previous PA, to help me with a training path since the bosses weren't and they gave me the run around as well. At this point, I gave up and decided to leave. - Seem to have a bias. A new PA, that looked like me, also did not receive training, at least in the month or so that we worked together, even though the last PA received training immediately upon getting hired. And they were on the same path (Editor). Which was suspect to me. And we were literally sitting around doing NOTHING, when I say nothing I mean up to 3 and 4 hours of no assignments, no runs, no nothing for like two weeks. - If you don't get training, the things that you do (taking out the trash, washing dishes, making coffee, getting lunches, etc) are not gonna get you your next job in film. You also do bite logs and transcripts but anyone can do that, and that's a PA duty anyway. You need a specialized skillset to move up in this industry. Side note: I was given a physical check by the President on two occasions, both times he said to make sure that I deposit it at the bank because it's a physical check and not direct deposit. I'm actually not stupid but thank you for telling me.

Pros

I had the pleasure of working at this small firm for several years and it was often a great experience. The team of producers, editors, and designers is a talented and dedicated group. They consistently delivered high-quality work and were always willing to collaborate and help each other out.

Cons

Occasionally being asked to work through lunch or after hours, as many of the companies in this space do.

Pros

See movies/tv episodes early, hands on experience editing.

Cons

Overworked with tight deadlines while being underpaid, staff are harsh if you don't know what you are doing, but that's their fault for not taking the time to train people that need to learn those skills. It's like they expect more from you when you've only been working there for a month. They say that after making 5 mistakes they won't hesitate to fire you, but that is not true. They let one person ride scott free, but won't take the same chance on someone like me who's only been there in the same position for less than two months? You are expendable from the start, and they are liars for making false promises.
