Pros

Outset has been one of the most rewarding engineering environments I’ve worked in. The team is exceptionally smart, collaborative, and low ego, which makes solving hard problems genuinely enjoyable. Engineers are trusted with a high degree of ownership and are encouraged to contribute beyond just implementation. Product thinking and customer empathy are valued here. The pace is fast, but in a good way. There’s a strong bias toward execution and learning, and it’s easy to see the impact of your work quickly. Leadership is transparent, approachable, and focused on building a thoughtful long term company rather than optimizing for short term optics.

Cons

Like most early stage startups, priorities can shift quickly and there’s occasionally some ambiguity while the company scales. The pace and ownership expectations won’t be for everyone, especially if you prefer highly structured environments.

Pros

Working at Outset has a ton of pros, but the biggest one for me is the people. Every team, and especially the co-founders, are genuinely some of the best people I’ve worked with. There’s a real culture of collaboration here. No matter who I reach out to, the response is almost always, “How can I help?” or “What do you need from me to make this happen?” That mindset matters a lot in my role because being successful requires support and partnership across multiple teams. At Outset, people consistently step up, contribute their time, and jump in wherever needed. It makes a huge difference and creates an environment where you genuinely feel supported. I also love the office and the neighborhood we’re in. The space itself is beautiful, and the People team does an incredible job fostering culture internally. Recently, they hosted an office party for employees, friends, and family, and it was honestly one of the best internal happy hours I’ve been to in years. Everyone genuinely wanted to spend time together, and our Head of Security DJ’d in the kitchen, which honestly sums up the vibe perfectly: great people, great energy, and a culture that feels authentic. From a role perspective, I really value autonomy, and my manager gives me exactly that, which means everything to me. It’s only been about seven weeks, and I’ve already helped support and evolve 10–12 events. It’s definitely fast-paced, with a ton happening at all times, but in the best possible way.

Cons

I can’t think of any so far
