Pros

The compensation is relatively high. Most people are pretty friendly. The environment, at least on my floor, doesn’t feel toxic.

It was my mistake not to take the negative reviews seriously before accepting a job with PACCAR. Though I have been with the company for a short time, I am already planning to move on. During my interview, I was told that the role would require full-time, in office presence. That would be fine, except most of my team has the ability to work from home at least two days, even new members. I personally do not mind going into an office and dressing up, but wearing a suit and tie EVERY DAY is old fashioned and really does get draining. The few ‘casual days’ throughout the year only mean that men don’t have to wear ties. The systems and technology are horrendous. Everything is so fragmented and sporadic; for a company that insists on conformity, organization and structure out of their employees, they certainly do not invest the same expectations out of their internal systems and technology. The lack of cohesiveness spills over into the multiple business units; despite being a company of 30,000, there’s several major companies under the PACCAR umbrella, all of whom seem to have their own way of doing things and lack proper communication or communication. Though the IT help desk is friendly, they seem way understaffed and issues take forever to resolve, if at all. The office itself looks like a scene out of the movie ‘Office Space’; it’s dismal and way behind the times. Most floors do not have microwaves, which requires going to the basement cafeteria to heat lunch. Unlike every other company I have worked for, health insurance benefits do not start immediately. It took about two months for my benefits to kick in, which nowadays is ridiculous. The insurance is generally ok, but the premiums are higher than any other company I’ve worked for. Also, my department experienced a significant amount of turnover, which so most days are just a matter of trying to keep going. For a high-salary, manager-titled role, I am performing work of junior analysts or even interns. I should be grateful for a paycheck but it’s a bit insulting and certainly doesn’t help with growth. I know I’ve whined about a lot of seemingly ‘first world’ issues, but again, I should’ve taken the other reviews more seriously before accepting an offer here. It’s not the absolute worst, by any means, but there’s definitely better.

Pros

Wonderful internship experience. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the internship, from the people and team culture to the meaningful projects and great location. It was an incredibly positive learning experience, and I would highly recommend working there.

Cons

While the business professional dress code may not be for everyone, I personally didn’t mind it and felt it contributed to the professional environment.

Pros

Not much, if you want a place that's okay with mediocrity, then welcome.

Cons

They blindly follow industry trends not industry standards. We have an initiative to use AI to increase productivity, without a proper plan, without security in mind and lack of general understanding. Consistently understaffed, for example there are teams or parts if teams that have max 4 developer type roles with 36 apps or APIs to support - this has lead to inconsistent code and effort as employees are spread too thin to be able to deliver quality work. Management refuses to take responsibility for issues that arise from being understaffed. Teams are not consistent in what tools and pipelines are used causing even more confusion and delays. Double standards: they don't want to properly promote or give raises to hard workers. Upper management made it clear to direct managers that "meets expectations" was a fine thing to give... To employees doing more than their fair share of work and are doing work outside of their role since they have no one else to do it do to being understaffed.
