Pros
nice office, some good design opportunities, some nice people (some snakes however), ok benefits
Cons
-EGOS...WAY too many of them, especially at the top. -Limited opportunities to advance, especially if you have a family (mothers or women who want a family and TO ACTUALLY SPEND TIME WITH SAID FAMILY...BEWARE!). They expect the firm to come first. Period. Don't even think about leaving a little early to see your kid's soccer game!! Can't work Saturday because of family plans? Too bad. Show up or be branded as "not a team player". Sorry-kids are only young once, which has led to many good people leaving. Historically, the women in leadership (i.e. at the Principal level) have either grown children, full time "help" (read: stay at home parent/nanny etc), don't really put their family first (someone else attends to the kid activities), or have no children at all. As soon as someone has a baby, chances for advancement to a position beyond Sr Associate vanish. Or you get laid off …possibly within a year of having a baby. -It's all about the $$$ and how to make the partners wealthier. -Culture of cliques and mean girls; lots of sniping and gossiping. -The pretty, flashy, young women will get the most attention and opportunities. -One's advancement or even tenure at PDR has everything to do with which Principal you've hooked yourself up to. If the Principal that is your advocate leaves, your career is toast.
