Pros
My direct manager in the Development department was fantastic, overall Development had a lot of really great people. Unique chance to be around other vegans and get lots of vegan food. Lots of opportunities to volunteer, get entry-level experience in all kinds of fields via internal transfer.
Cons
Experiences with coworkers going to HR about employees not being fully vegan in their private lives. Even if it's not a requirement of the job, HR has followed up with folks. Certain departments had notoriously aggressive supervisors, pressuring employees to be available around the clock, and making extensive volunteering seem necessary to advance. The workers really put their hearts into what they do, burnout was hard. Ingrid Newkirk's messaging internally was regularly alienating. I felt it bordered on insulting when she spoke of BIPOC & LGBT+ issues in the scope of PETA's history, and forums to openly discuss the organization's work were indefinitely phased out not long after I was employed there. In the nearly 4 years I was there, one 3-hour employee learning session on compassion fatigue was offered. I had been asking HR about org-wide support from very early on.
