Pros

PPG offers competitive pay and benefits. They give good bonuses, and most departments have a favorable holiday off schedule. Depending on the department you work in will depend on your work shift, hours and pay. They provide each new hire with the needed work boots, clothes, personal protective equipment and essential supplies, tools and provide each employee with a locker (a few different lockers) to store their work clothes, tools and / or supplies, to access throughout their shift. They train each new hire (essentially) to understand their regular Glassdoor.com assigned duties. They have a break room, snack bar (self serve and check out accessible 24hrs) and lunch truck (during normal business hours)

Cons

PPG is like a revolving door, in terms of constant flow of hiring and firing. They will fire anyone at any given time. If you call off, they won’t care what’s going on in your personal life, they will just text you, don’t bother coming in, you’ve been terminated. No warning, no sit down disciplinary meeting, and no room for explanation. Your phone will be blocked if you try to text back or call the HR employee who makes that final decision and sends you the message. Depending on which department you work in, most of the work, especially for new hires, is pretty intense, and much is expected of their workers. It’s hard and strenuous labor, and you are expected to keep up or get trampled on (mentally or verbally.) It’s a crucial environment and no mercy is given. People have lost body parts, or other serious matter have occurred by not following SOP. Safety is a concern, but overworked human beings, is not! It’s kind of hard to have one without the other according to experts and common sense. Another issue that takes place at PPG, but never addressed.. The way everyone steals from each other. Tools, work supplies, that are solely given to and assigned to each worker, ALWAYS comes up missing. If you have a work jacket that was given to you, and it’s left in the break room or your locker (not locked) it will more likely be GONE when you return. Everyone thinks it’s a free for all there. Nobody seems to do anything about it, and this is an on going issue. If you get new work boots and they are left unattended, they will disappear and you will no longer have your work boots, which is required while working there, they will send you home if you don’t have them!! It’s a dog eat dog world, and nobody cares about you, your grievances, you personally belongings, your feelings, or your personal issues… That’s a fact! And complaining about anything will only get you hated in or fired!

Pros

Acceptable 401K matching with immediate vesting as well as an age based deferred compensation program that has a 3 year vesting period. Standard benefits and pay consistent with industry. Acceptable safety practices defined and adhered to throughout organization.

Cons

Moderately high turnover (at least my division). Inconsistent treatment of employees (flex time allowed for some employees but not others in same work category, some employees told to use personal car or phone for work activities while others get in trouble for same type of work activity, allowing some employees the options to apply and move internally while others are not allowed - and are sometimes even forced to moved to a role for which they didn't apply against their desires). Inconsistent reporting of data and legal brushes aside your questions/findings making you seem like you did something wrong when uncovering something fishy.
