Pros
The CEO is never there and is so far disconnected from what happens at the office that you’ll be left alone to do what you want 95% of the time.
Cons
Pay is insulting. Zero room for growth. No company culture or learning opportunities. CEO is more concerned with being liked by her employees than actually managing a company. Employees oftentimes aren’t allowed to even email clients, let alone attend their own events. The office is in shambles; there are literally holes in the walls, unfinished construction, exposed wires everywhere, not to mention the trash, food, and half empty coffees left in random corners by the CEO resulting in mold, bugs and mice. Your days will be filled with empty promises and constant lies. You’ll hear tales of the nonexistent “New York office” and be promised raises and projects that will never happen. Lack of an HR department means your questions and concerns will generally be deflected and rarely ever handled head on. Any placements you get for clients are rarely shared with them and get lost instead in piles of unread emails, so your work will essentially be for nothing. The office turns into a daycare when school is not in session, so you can add ‘glorified babysitter’ to your resume. Whether you’re a prospective employee or perhaps a potential client trying to vet the company’s abilities, know that you can do better. The agency is behind the times in so many ways, and talented employees leave in droves once they realize that the owners have no intentions of changing. I would implore you instead to search out one of the many other agencies in the area focused on results for clients, rather than choosing one whose CEO treats owning a company like a hobby that’s bankrolled by her rich dad rather than a livelihood.
