Pros

1) PRICE has a customer base that includes all of the major companies in aerospace and defense and is the main sponsor at many conferences focused on cost estimation. You will be given opportunities to make a name for yourself in the industry. 2) There are several experts at the company that are a joy to work with and are great at teaching younger employees what they know. If you are paired with them, you will quickly become a quality professional. 3)The dress code is casual. No suits or ties. You can wear shorts and a t-shirt if you want.

Cons

1) At entry level positions, the pay is much lower than what would normally be expected if you looked at most salary survey resources. This starts to be remedied as someone gets promoted, but the expectations and requirements for promotion are unclear for many of the positions. Management also tends to be reactive when it comes to this, as in they won't act in a meaningful way unless you are about to leave the company. 2) Though there are a few managers that really know what they are doing, they are the exception and not the rule. Many of the managers are not formally trained, and it shows in how projects are assigned, employees are evaluated, and conduct is policed. There is no stability or consistency. TLDR: Favorites can get away with anything. 3) Most of the company is thinking about retirement in the next 10 to 15 years. The future is uncertain.

PRICE Systems Response
6y
1) PRICE Systems uses validated industry salary surveys such as those produced by Robert Half and employer associations such as Midatlantic Employers Association. In addition, we have hired compensation consulting companies who have access to extensive compensation data and, based on their information, we are able to design a compensation structure that is in line with market rates. There are free sources available on-line for employees to do salary research but, as a company whose very business is data, we believe it is a mistake to rely on anonymous, unvalidated data to determine our pay rates. Employee compensation is reviewed continuously, and formally in January of every year. Each employee's compensation is adjusted based on market research and performance at that time, not just when someone threatens departure. While we certainly believe that everyone is entitled to his opinion, we believe that one person's opinion can be colored by his own perceived situation, and it would not be correct to assume that those opinions are fact or are widely-held. 2) While personal conflicts in the workplace are inevitable, a conflict with one's manager certainly does not mean that most managers are unskilled and untrained. As an employee holding his first job out of college, this person does not have a wealth of experience or first-hand knowledge against which to compare his experience at PRICE. 3) While it is true that PRICE has many older employees who bring extremely valuable skills and knowledge, we also have many younger employees and are actively recruiting and grooming employees as part of a normal succession-planning process. And of course this person could not possibly know what "most of the company" is thinking. We were sorry to see this employee decide to leave the company. However we have been aware for some time that he was unhappy, for his own reasons, and there was nothing we could do that would change his feelings or beliefs. We thank him for taking the time to voice his criticism and will certainly take his comments under advisement, and we wish him well in his new position.

Pros

The training provided to help you understand the software PRICE Systems offers is unmatched. The company really wants you to succeed. They set aside some time for you to become very familiar with all of their products, all while providing 1-1 mentorship to help fill any gaps. Possibilities seem endless! At my last job, it seems that I was pigeon-holed into one job with a set number of job responsibilities. Here at PRICE, you are trusted "wear many hats" throughout your work day. It is never a dull moment, and I'm certain this job opportunity will help me grow exponentially as a professional in the industry. The culture at PRICE is one that I've never encountered before. There is not a single person within the company (even the President!) that I do not have access to / that is not willing to sit down and talk with me, whether the inquiries are general, project related, or personal. Everyone is very nice and supportive of one another. At the same time, they will keep it real with you. If you make a mistake, they are not afraid to let you know about it. This will ultimately help me refine my skills and allow me to attain my future professional goals.

Cons

Traveling is a huge part of being a Solutions Architect. Although I do not see this as a Con, others have to seriously consider if they're willing to travel upwards of 50% of the year (almost never the weekends). You start with 0 hours of vacation, so accumulating hours will be tough if you have pre-planned vacation upon accepting the opportunity. Although this was a concern of mine, the company was very aware that I had already planned a few vacations in the coming months after accepting the job. They are willing to work with you on a plan for allowing you to still take PTO with minimal hours accrued.
