Pros
While this commute may make some people cringe, I do it every day because of the core values this Company has. These may not be what you find valuable in a Company, but this is what I looked for in a place that I spend more time at then with my own family: -Payment Source is a very entrepreneurial Company which to me is what drove me to want to work here in the first place. They strive for better which means changes are a must. You will learn something new every day and this Company never gets stagnant. This is still a young Company with old roots, so we are always striving to be best. -They help support and mentor all team members in all departments (leadership programs that you can enroll in where you are assigned a mentor from the executive team, monthly one on ones, etc) -The Company has an amazing openness with all team members. For example, we have an ideas committee where one rep from each office participates for a three-month period and reviews ideas submitted and actions accordingly. I have worked at 5+ other Companies and none compared in this area - you absolutely have a voice and are encouraged to use it here. And week after week, it is proven that your voice is heard with new developments made to the tools we use to help our customers, processes are improved, and so on. -This truly is a family environment - you are not someone just filling a seat or a number. Everyone, from the President down, is truly interested in you and what you are doing both in and out of work. To help foster this, we meet every week and have lunch together which is provided by the Company. The whole idea behind this is a way to bring us all together and celebrate successes, special occasions, call out exceptional things our team did, etc. We 'break bread' together to build a strong team bond. Another personal example, I had my first child while employed here and I can't count the times where our President will come in with a new book, craft (birdhouse that we could paint together), or something that he just happened to see and thought she would love. -Great benefits and compensations packages. I have never felt that I was underpaid in any role that I have had with the company, even when I started in the Customer Service team. The pay is more then fair, especially when you add in the full benefits program (which quite frankly, is the best benefit package I have ever had and is better then what my colleagues have in other large corporate or government roles), group RRSP program where the Company will match your contribution up to a certain amount, paid volunteer day/group volunteer days at the Daily Bread Food Bank, and more. -An HR department that fully supports all departments from benefits and group rrsp questions and coordination, travel plans, organizing development courses and training weeks, all while handling recruiting and their other active HR duties. Our HR Manager specifically is constantly checking in with staff in the various departments. She has such a way with the team that is very nurturing and has such a strong desire to support all staff in what ever they may need. I recently witnessed her go above and beyond for a new employee that made me truly appreciate this department!
Cons
In my position, I do not have personal Cons to list but here is what I have witnessed that may help future employees decide if this Company is a right fit for you: -Because of our entrepreneurial mindset, we are constantly evolving, brainstorming, making changes, striving to be better. This can be hectic and overwhelming to some as they may not adapt to change well. I have seen past employees struggle who prefer a more rigid/structured or step by step world which this just isn't. -If you are not able to grasp new things quickly, this can be a challenge for new team members. Within Payment Source, there are three major parts of our business and if you need to be involved in all three, it can a lot of information to process. -You will never have a boring or uneventful day here as we are fast paced and need to meet the demands of our customers. We highly encourage your break time to take a step away as you probably haven't stopped since you got in. Again, this may not be what you are looking for. -Some members of the team (more on the Executive side and me included) start email threads in the evening hours as that is their downtime and when they remember something that they meant to email earlier. But there is no expectation on team members included in those strings to respond all hours of the night. -We are a Google Company. We use most of the enterprise/business tools provided by Google because we felt it was best for our Company. We understand that most Companies still use Microsoft but for our business needs, we felt that it was not the best tool for our requirements. Similar to the approach that schools are using (most newly graduated candidates will appreciate this), Google tools are so much better for collaboration which is often what happens with our docs/sheets. It will take some getting used to if you have not used Google programs before, but you will see the benefits if you are open to it!
