Pros

You will have a chance to work in Fintech.

Cons

Extremely disorganized, with a prevalent blame culture. Under the guise of wearing multiple hats, they will make you work 12-hour shifts. Managers frequently ask questions about your personal life.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We take your concerns seriously and are sorry to hear that this has been your experience at Penfold. We want to clarify that it is not, and never has been, the company’s intention to require anyone to work 12-hour shifts. We aim to foster a healthy work-life balance, and any instances where employees feel pressured to work extended hours or feel uncomfortable with personal questions are not aligned with our company’s ethos. As a growing startup, we recognise that organisational challenges can arise. We are committed to addressing these and have recently increased resource across teams to help with some of this. While the fast-paced nature of startup life is inevitable, it’s our priority that all employees feel supported in their roles and we work collaboratively with management to ensure this is the case. To help us address the issues you’ve raised, please reach out to the People Team (Gemma or Sabrina) where we’d be happy to discuss these matters with you confidentially.

Pros

Penfold was the best career move I made! I joined the business in its early days and grew exponentially alongside it, taking on several roles that were highly challenging, high-impact, and extremely rewarding. There's a strong culture of recognition, with a big focus on upskilling and internal progression (regardless of experience). If you have the right work ethic – hungry, driven, first-principles thinker, fast mover – you'll thrive very quickly and be top of mind for new opportunities. Everyone has a voice and is heard, no matter your seniority or background. You're empowered to make things happen – as long as there's a clear, well-reasoned rationale behind it. The CEOs are inspiring, genuine, and kind, setting the tone for a low-ego, no-arrogance culture. The whole team is full of smart, down-to-earth people who want to learn, build a fantastic business, and have fun doing it. Just a fantastic, friendly place to work.

Cons

Less a con, more of a caveat: you'll be surrounded by incredibly smart cookies, which pushes you to bring your best and work hard for this inspiring business. It's not about doing 'more' work - it's about doing 'smart' work. Being sharp, adaptable, and comfortable in ambiguity will set you up for success here.
