Pros

Excellent staff. Everyone (including management) jokes around and doesn't take things too seriously, making the work environment fun, yet we still work hard and get things done. Our general manager is very approachable and doesn't make you feel like you're wasting his time by talking to him. If you have a problem, he will make sure it is addressed. It is a very comfortable environment to work in, and the managers will take time to coach and help junior employees out. I have never seen an employee treated disrespectfully from anyone within the organization. There is good money in the job for those willing to hustle hard and build up clientele and referrals. The longer you work here, the more you will make. The job will keep you active and you will get your steps in during the day. Great benefits! Room for growth and vertical progression if you’re willing to make this your long-term career path.

Cons

Lots of long days and inconvenient hours. You will often have to come in during your off days or hours to facilitate meeting a customer on their time. Vertical progression seems to hinge almost entirely on your experience within the car industry. Longevity in this field is the primary requisite of any managerial role, rather than soft skills like most other fields. Do not believe the salaries you see here on GlassDoor for sales consultant. There is no base salary. It is 100% commission. The last several years after Covid were huge moneymakers, but the market has definitely slowed down with overinflated car prices and underpaid consumers. There is also a huge spread between bottom and top sales people. Our bottom half probably only makes between $25,000 and $45,000 per year right now. The top earners do make six figures. Subjectively questionable etiquette when it comes to determining which salesperson gets “dibs” on a customer. I personally think it's extremely weighted in favor of internet personnel. They can spam all the internet leads with templates, claiming them as their customers, then come work the floor and take fresh ups that should instead be given to floor personnel.

Pros

I do not have any pros for Penske.

Cons

Their HR department does not hold their managers accountable for the abuse they are causing onto their employees. Being told to "remember to clock out" for lunch because we always have to work through our lunches is so small compared to all the other issues that occur in Penske. HR chooses not do anything to help their employees when they report something. They realistically do not care whatsoever that extreme misconduct occurs. They also don't ever care to explain the benefits that may be necessary for work/life stress balance except for one quick second at Power Up. HR does not tell you anything to set you up for success.
