Pros
Fast-paced Plenty of impactful work to do Upper management wants people to succeed and grow in their careers Lots of opportunities to grow and learn if you know how to find/ask for them Overall company culture focuses on doing the right thing and putting patients' safety first I have been fortunate to be on a team with people and a culture that I love and had managers that have been mostly good.
Cons
Pay is NOT competitive for engineering. I've been told multiple times that I should be happy because Penumbra does better than a lot of other companies. Just because some people are paid poorly, doesn't mean we shouldn't want to be paid well. We work our butts off here. That said, depending on who you report to (and who their boss is), you can have wildly different experiences here. There is a LOT of team-to-team variation with respect to: compensation/raises/stock options, promotions, culture, work-life balance, support in your growth, mentorship, collaboration/teamwork, getting moved teams/managers without your input. Unfortunately, from talking to people in all different departments, it can feel like we're working at totally different companies. I mostly enjoy my work, but many people are poorly treated, under appreciated, and abused for being willing to put in a lot of time and take lower pay (including myself in the past).
