Pros

PeopleFund occupies an interesting space in the nonprofit sphere as a CDFI, and you'll get a hybrid experience: certain elements function like a nonprofit, other elements more closely resemble a bank. For this reason, it's a good place for people who are new college graduates, early career professionals, or folks looking to change careers into either of these two industries. The workload for entry level folks is reasonable--it ebbs and flows like any company. It's not uncommon for interns to be hired when they graduate, which is a huge plus and very rare for the nonprofit sector. There's a mix of more laid-back and conservative/professional folks, so you can kind of find your vibe depending on what you're looking for out of work relationships. Work schedules can be flexible to accommodate appointments and emergencies, and there are usually lots of opportunities to be outbound and meeting people from other organizations. Pay and benefits (especially benefits) are competitive for comparable positions at other Austin nonprofits. Overall, a solid job for early career folks and one I was happy to have for two years.

Cons

There's not a lot of room for advancement, which is a common problem with all nonprofits. Tensions can flare up because there are a lot of big personalities on staff across all levels. Folks who don't have a good experience here usually don't like it because they don't get along with their particular supervisor or team, but if you know how to keep a cool head you'll be fine. It's also not as casual as other nonprofits because it walks the line between nonprofit and bank, so if you're looking for a nonprofit job because you want to show up in jeans and sandals and chat with your work friends every day, this isn't the place for you.
