Pros

I was always super impressed with Pete and the business he's built. He is very much about self-improvement and improvement of his management team and other staff. He's very big on training of all staff too (employees and contractors) and has a process and procedure for basically everything. Pete is very aware and very honest about his faults (which I always appreciated). He truly loves smart people and people that do their jobs well. He has a very low tolerance for stupid people or those who don't do their jobs well (as do I). Some employees in the past have said his standards are too high or he's too tough. No, he just holds people accountable to do their jobs well and he wants his clients to have a Nordstrom experience. I found nothing wrong with that. If you're an "A" player, you will love this environment...slackers do not apply. Pete has a super fun personality and I got along famously with him. Can Pete be a wanker? Yah, but that's because he has high standards and someone is being a moron. I know I can be a wanker if someone's a total moron because I too have high standards for those I work with too! I find Pete to be a very generous business owner. He likes to have benefits that are commensurate with industry standards (or better) for a small business. If you need to work through lunch, he'll have lunch brought in for you. He has the kitchen stocked with food and drinks. He throws an awesome holiday party every year. As for growth, I don't know what that other person's review was talking about. He's absolutely growing! He's opening new offices in other states and growing his business in OC. PFCS had a 33% growth from 2016 to 2017. He's looking to grow the business another 30% this year too. I was a management team contractor for about 2.5 years. I always felt included even though I didn't work in the office. Pete was super awesome to me, which is why I always tried to go above and beyond for him. Unfortunately, I had to stop working for him due to moving across the country. It really bummed me out as I loved working for him and with his amazing staff. PFCS truly has amazing employees, they're super smart and very fun people. I will miss them all.

Cons

This isn't a con but if you're lazy or worked only for large companies in the past, this place isn't for you. This is a team environment in my opinion so saying "it's not my job" won't really fly. We all helped each other.

Pros

Lots of freedom in how you spend your time, great work-life balance, lots of resources and support, open communication, awesome team culture. I feel challenged, and I see so much impact as a direct result of my hard work. I feel invested in our success, and I am incredibly proud of what I have helped make possible starting from a blank piece of paper in some instances. I am the master of my schedule, deciding what I need to do when to make sure my assignments are taken care of. I have come to learn that there isn't anything I can't do without a bit of research and project management skills. I love the culture we have built. Lots of collaboration, open opportunities for discussion. I have the psychological safety to experiment with something new and fail, knowing that the "failure" is just data for our next effort. I can feel the trust from leadership that I am a smart, capable individual. A notable shift in the culture over the years is the focus on emotional intelligence. The company offers regular courses in having tough conversations with one another, providing an impressive framework that we are all expected to use to manage disputes. It has significantly lowered the drama. I like that we all have the same vocabulary and expectations for civil conversation, even when emotions are high.

Cons

High expectations, challenging work with lots of problem solving, requires a lot of self discipline and time management. A growing company has it's ups and downs as it adapts to the growing pains that come with scaling for success. This means that a lot of what we do in the marketing team is uncharted territory with no set path forward. Everyday requires problem solving, critical thinking, and hard work. There are few opportunities for being on "auto-pilot" in your workload. The continuous improvement culture means that much of the written processes and training are often being changed and updated.

Pros

The Flexible schedule and Bonuses are the only good I could see

Cons

So many! The list is exhaustive - In my first week 3 people were fired and 1 quit immediately showing me how disposable they view people - "They were simply not a good fit" gets posted a lot, and I must say, when hundreds of people are joining and being fired each year, you start to wonder who fits - People would have full mental breakdowns due to the abusive language of 2 project managers and the owner, PETER. Crying was something I saw a lot of. - There was discriminatory language used a lot. - Their cashcow was a company that had no idea the scam billing methods being used. - Several employees have a drinking problem, likely began due to the stress level. I have never been so stressed at a job. - Pete is aggressive and frequently shouts slurs and swears at people of which I won't repeat. - Tries to make you sign an NDA after firing you so you can't leave reviews like this one!

Pete Fowler Construction Services Response

We are a company that thrives on constructive feedback, operates in a continuous improvement mindset, and welcomes reviewers to connect for a conversation. Specific to the claims made here, however, we are led to believe that this may be spam or an effort to defame by someone without personal knowledge of our company. We have no records of turnover such as noted here, no NDA practices noted here, and certainly don't tolerate discriminatory language, just to address a few of the outlandish statements. Further, there is no record of "postings of someone not being a good fit" or anyone calling our CEO Peter. We welcome candidates to chat with us to see that this is obviously not a proper reflection of our company.
