Pros

The only pro's were the sales team at the time and the dogs

Cons

Some may think that comparing the environment to that of North Korea is crazy, however, I would liken the owner and manager to a certain german dictator. I worked at PetsPyjamas for less than a year, and my mental health deteriorated massively during this time, to the point where I would have several anxiety attacks before going into work. This isn't due to the job itself, which is actually mundane, and very boring, but due to the environment itself and the management team as a whole. You are promised many things, uncapped commission, a fun working space, dog friendly office, social events to name a few, however you quickly learn that this is false information, and my only regret is truly not listening to these glassdoor reviews. The commission structure changed SO many times that it was hard to keep up with. I was actually one of their top sellers and I still barely managed to get buy. The targets were totally unachievable, and given that they were cheating their customers out of money (by adding extra onto hotel quoted prices), this made it much more difficult to get my customers to trust and buy with me. The workspace is totally and utterly vile. You are not allowed to listen to music, or chat, people were moved several times, just because they became friends, to the point were my best friend at the job was moved onto the opposite schedule so that I was isolated. If it's a particularly bad sales day, the owner would come down and pick people out, and embarrass them in front of everyone. The office was dog friendly - if your dog was quiet and didn't cause any disrupt by playing, which is funny because the naughtiest dog in the office was the CFO's, he would constantly urinate on everyone's belongings. The social events were bare, and always mid week, so that nobody really turned up because they were nervous it would affect their performance the next day and in turn be ridiculed for. They have no sympathy whatsoever, to the point were one of their main investors (who works in tech and also invests in many other projects created by the owner) made fun of the fact that a member of staff wasn't at the "christmas party" due to a family death - just why???? I was harassed and bullied so badly like many others. I was actually present, when a member of the team was screamed at in the most disgusting manner by the owner one day, all because they didn't stop and have a conversation with her. After filing a complaint with the none existent HR team, they were brought in for a meeting away from the office. I know they were supplied with evidence of the bullying, and also statements from many others detailing the bullying and harassment they faced from the owner and her many minion managers (who are too scared to lose their paycheck than stand up for what is correct). They were terminated. According to the "impartial" HR team they couldn't comment on the "private conversation" between the owner and this said employee, which is a total fabrication, as the whole office could hear it. I feel obliged to write this on their behalf, as at the time, they were so incapacitated by their mental health, that it took months for them to get better. I wonder how they sit with this on their conscience. Just save yourself any hassle or trauma, truly, don't bother.

PetsPyjamas Response
5y
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, we are very sorry to hear about your experience at PetsPyjamas and we value all of our former and current employees' feedback. While we were able to work in an office environment, we also offered many additional benefits to our team including free breakfast, lunch, dinner (for members wishing to stay later), yummy snacks and fun games whereby prizes ranged from cash and Amazon vouchers to restaurant meals and money behind the local bar. With regards to prices quoted for customers, among our many customer booking benefits including dogs stay free and access to our VIP member’s club, Priority Paws, we also pride ourselves on promising our customers the best price guaranteed - meaning that if our customer can quote a cheaper price elsewhere, we will always match it. This is in addition to all the benefits our customers receive when booking with us versus somewhere else. Being the dog lovers we are and having a totally dog-welcoming office does mean that, on occasion, little pups can’t wait until they get outside to relieve themselves and that some breeds may take longer to toilet train than others. As a result, we have readily available toilet pads, sprays to deter and disguise the scent, ensured that all surfaces are wipeable (no carpet) and the office is deep cleaned daily. Being dog owners ourselves, we are mindful that an untrained puppy can be stressful for their owners in a work environment, and we do all we can to support new dog owners in feeling that they can bring their best furry friend to the office. We take mental health very seriously, and as such, offered weekly counselling sessions with a professional for employees who felt they would benefit from it. Likewise, our HR door is always open and we have an open-door policy to all members of the Leadership Team should you have felt the need to discuss any serious concerns or the allegations you are presenting to us now. Please do feel free to contact us at any time to discuss. This year, we’re focussing on how we can be the best support for our whole team and the new self-employed team of Pet Partners in order to help them succeed and feel empowered with their businesses. I wish you all the best in your career, Aimee from PetsPyjamas 🐾

Pros

Shared trauma creates strong friendship bonds.

Cons

Bullying, toxic culture, cloaks & daggers. Secretive redundancies made left right and centre. No one is safe under this chaotic, egotistical management. If you want to do your job well, don’t work here. The Founder is a dictator and as soon as you disagree with her you’re out.

Pros

Nice customers and some nice hotels , shame PETSPYJAMAS don’t pay their hotel invoices so hotels refuse bookings from us.

Cons

Terrible and I mean terrible management, taken on and promised the world in October 2024, no organisation or any skill in actually running a sales department. PETSPYJAMAS then randomly announced they’ve been taken over by OPL travel , meaning myself and other colleague were made redundant just before Christmas and not only that, have now been left underpaid after they’ve miscalculated final pay. PETSPYJAMAS is only going one way and that is DOWN, they’ve been calling themselves a startup for the last 7 years. And now theyve given up and been bought over as they’ve realised they have no money left in the pot. Hotels hate working with them. Bills aren’t paid on time and it’s embarrassing to even be associated with such a brand after being in luxury travel for over 10 years.
