Pros
Incredibly talented staff and good benefits are the primary reasons to work at PhRMA. The overall compensation at most levels is slightly above average, so PhRMA has no difficulty in recruiting quality people. The nature of the work is quite varied, so you're unlikely to become bored.
Cons
Departmental management creates an environment that is very stressful and highly competitive. A little competition can be a good thing, but too much competition leads to a working environment that is largely adversarial. On the surface, the culture here seems collegial; in practice, however, employees are regularly pitted against one another and most of the senior managers are egocentric and aloof. Salary adjustments / promotions seem to be based primarily on favoritism and not actual performance. Moreover, there is absolutely no transparency regarding these decisions - expectations and performance metrics here are incredibly vague.
