Pros

My experience at PGW has been very positive. Because so many employees stay longer at PGW than at an average company, I feel managers are more supportive of your career development. Managers/directors/supervisors are invested in the organizations and want to shape the next generation of leaders. Mangers have consistently pushed me to do more in my role and find opportunities to collaborate across the company. I feel very connected to the organization and am pleased with the amount of time off, compressed work week schedules, wellness programs (onsite gym and fitness classes), and external training and conference allowances. While not a perfect organization, employees have authentic relationships with one another and there’s value in the day to day job responsibilities.

Cons

Portions of the company are detrimentally risk adverse, which can be frustrating if you need to work with that department. Similarly, some technology is far more advanced than in other areas so as a new employee you could get unlucky and the software/tech may lag compared to your previous employer. As a utility we have to plan far in advance, but somehow our own annual performance evaluations are consistently 8 months late. Somewhat troubling, I don't believe executive leadership has yet to fully accept the city of Philadelphia's clean energy goals; the organization needs to hear from c-level staff on this to understand how we will remain competitive 10 years or exist in 30 years.

Pros

Easy work guaranteed 40 hours a week great benefits no lay offs pension 457 or 401k paid sick days holidays and vacation days

Cons

You get penalized for using sick days to easy to lose progressions in the summer time the higher up have less work so they micromanage everything you do new rules are constantly being added it’s not a real union the union works for Pgw so it’s a conflict of interest when it comes time for them to defend you the company always puts the blame on you if they can never find a conclusive answer to a problem
