Studio Manager - Studio Manager Pilates ProWorks Employee Review

Pros

Relaxed dress code, Mac computer (at front desk) - please note that they require manager's to use their own laptop though at their own expense!

Cons

The owners, Oscar Sanin and Taylor Carter, are not only terribly unkind people - but do not follow labor laws and treat their employees/independent contractors unacceptably. The instructors are incorrectly classified as independent contractors and are also forced to pay for their own required PPW training program and sign a contract that prohibits them from teaching at other pilates or barre studios (which completely defeats the purpose of being an independent contractor and is illegal to say the least). Pay rates differ greatly as an instructor as well. Studio Managers are incorrectly classified as Exempt-Salary, when it is a Non-Exempt Salary job (as in they need to pay you overtime etc. which they refuse to do and then verbally abuse you over bringing up your legal rights). Front Desk Employees are incorrectly paid as well, they do not pay you overtime, split shift premium pay, and do not give mandated unpaid 30 min. lunch breaks and paid 10 min breaks - which are your legal rights. They are currently undergoing legal actions from multiple former employees. I sincerely hope no one else has to go through the verbal and emotional abuse and then have to fight for your basic legal rights and getting paid for the time you spent working....

Pros

A job where you can wear leggings and play your own music. Yes please! Amazing environment. People are terrific, from the instructors to the clients and the front desk staff. The schedule is perfect, you can create your own hours and work with others to make an ideal schedule. The owners give you freedom to run the business and are open to your ideas. There is support from them and their assistant when you need it without constant check ins. There is more opportunity for growth then any other business I've been a part of. The buisiness is growing rapidly. Pay is very competitive for the industry.

Cons

Wish there was more support and feedback. The owners are business savvy and treat their employees as such. They don't need to baby you every day and rather, treat you as an equal, with all the good and bad that goes with that. If you can't handle criticisms or take coldness well, they may not be your ideal bosses. But they are great people and truly care for every person they employ and the whole business they run. If you are hourly, there are no benefits. You don't get into this business for the money so the environment outweighs this.
