Pros

Franchise owners offer great support since they are in the same boat.

Cons

Where to start? Bloated corporate structure that has not kept up with the latest market and technology. The franchise training in Toronto was average at best and definitely does not prepare you to go on your own. More support comes after training from other owners. Their marketing strategy is nothing special, basically buy branded "donut boxes" and knock door to door at local real estate offices. Their franchise may have been a dominate force 20 years ago but they have not kept up with the times. Their 3-tierd inspection pricing is a scam since you are pressured to sell higher inspection tiers for very little client value. Unlike other franchises that have a protected territory, they do the opposite. They limit you to a certain area but will dump new franchisees into your farm area so you end up competing with other owners! What did I pay for again?? Their "ground-breaking" software cost over $3M but is full of bugs and suffer from a poor UI. So as an owner, your fee per inspection is so inflated to cover corporate overhead. You can literally buy Spectora that is the best software in the industry for $99/mo, a fraction of the cost. It is far from a business in a box. With the boom in the internet and 3rd party offerings, you can get all the in-person training you need and online support for under $2500 vs their $25K fee. I have more resources and training tools from Nachi for only $500/yr. Lastly, if you plan to leave after the 5yr agreement, good luck trying to find a buyer and they will sue you if you try to go independent with their 2 yr non-compete agreement. Total waste of money with insane on-going fees for minimal support in return.

Pros

Training and inspection software are second to none. Some tools provided. But that's it for pros.

Cons

Low pay. The offer three distinct packages – Plus, Premium & Prestige. You will start at an approximate rate of 27% of the basic package fee (Plus) regardless of what package level services you provide. Average per inspection you can expect approximately $150/inspection. This year I will be earning less than $35,000/yr. Factor in fuel, insurance, vehicle depreciation and getting potentially injured. Use of your own vehicle. This varies with different franchise locations. I use my own car. I get no mileage reimbursement unless its over an hour away from the office location, not my home location. I do not get access to a company gas card either. I put on over 40,000 miles in one year. Keep in mind the P2P corporation extracts a minimum of 11% of the franchise revenue which of course trickles down to limiting income for inspectors so you can't solely blame the franchise owner for such a depressing pay scale. Two-year non compete agreement.

Thank you for the time you’ve spent as a Residential Home Inspector with one of our independently owned and operated Pillar To Post franchises. We’re glad to hear our training and software tools made a positive impact. These are key parts of how we support inspectors across the network. Because each franchise manages its own compensation, mileage, and benefits, experiences can vary from one location to another. Your feedback offers a window into that variability, and while corporate royalties help provide system-wide tools and resources, we recognize that each role is shaped by local operations. We appreciate your perspective and wish you continued success ahead. Pillar To Post Home Office Team
