Pros
The Pitt Rivers Museum is an amazing working environment. I joined this summer (2023) as temporary staff, as a summer job while I'm a student, and was immediately made to feel very welcome by the supervisors and it's clear everyone who works there is very interested in the museum itself. My coworkers are very friendly, and the supervisors are really supportive, and it feels as though they care about you personally. They immediately address any issues or problems you may have. (e.g I asked for help on the till and they came to the shop from the office and showed me in detail how to address my problem.) If you ever do make a mistake there is never any blame, they just show you how to fix the mistake and are very positive about it. It's a very active job, there is hardly any sitting around, I easily do around 15,000 steps per day. Another pro is that you get to speak to visitors all day which can be really interesting as people are visiting from Oxford and all around the world so you really do learn from the visitors as well as the artefacts and staff in the museum. You share a break room with everyone else who works in the pitt rivers including the researchers and the collections team who can also be really interesting to chat to and learn from. Inside the office they have words on the wall they aspire to, including "Compassionate" and "Goal oriented" and they definitely live up to all of that and more. I can't recommend it enough.
Cons
I can't really think of any cons as my entire experience has been amazing. If you don't like a public facing role this would definitely not be for you, and if you want to sit at a desk all day it's not for you either as it involves a lot of moving around.
