Pros
Money is great in the spring and summer times when the beer garden fills up. Bowling, arcade and location keeps it pretty consistent traffic. 3 banquet rooms available for event shifts if interested. Multiple sections, each with a unique dynamic keeping it from becoming all too tedious and boring. Easy to get shifts covered through the scheduling app, coworkers are constantly looking to pick up shifts making it relatively easy to get a day off last minute if something comes up or you simply want a spontaneous outing.
Cons
Communication can be lacking all around. Very few pre shift meetings or any updates given when new menu items, happy hour changes, or daily events are introduced. Building is huge so you will need to be efficient to prevent multiple trips to and from the kitchen/dry storage/etc. There isn’t enough designated buster roles leaving servers to buss their own tables constantly (Not always). The runners and assistants work hard, it’s just too big of an operation to keep up with everything. And my last point is that there are those coworkers that like to leave you to do a majority of the work involving cleaning, organizing, getting ice, prepping, etc. I guess you can say that about every job but it can become particularly frustrating at Plank because the ones who don’t help buss and what not end up getting more opportunity for tables since they are usually leaning when not talking to tables. So if I’m busy bussing my tables, and cleaning off their dirty tables they left for others, they swoop in and take a table in my section since I’m too busy to get them. Which is crazy unfair and management doesn’t reward you for doing the extra mile work so I would have been better off following suit like the lazy ones. But that’s just not my work ethic.
