I had a fairly long career in a sometimes volatile industry.
Cons
It got slow. My job got merged with another job. I got laid off. Got called back to an unrelated job in hopes of me quitting. I did the other job for over a year. Then I retired. Received a whopping $100 per year of service retirement bonus. Hooray, the company avoided paying severance.
