Pros

The team of designers is incredibly skilled, with enormous expectations for design output. Great benefits for full-time employees with generous PTO. High-profile clients.

Cons

Management has an almost yearly cycle of letting go and hiring fulltime designers, with little to no warning or details regarding the decision-making behind the process. Expectations are not made clear and burnout is frequent. Employee contracts do not allow designers to share the work they were a part of on their portfolio site, and the founder will contact you to take items off your website.

Pros

Impressive clients, clean work, great experience working with big brands and alongside other great designers. Fun work environment generally and overall decent flexibility.

Cons

Odd rules for sharing work. Employment contract bars employees from using work imagery in their portfolio. Owner will harass former employees to remove all imagery from portfolio and profiles, citing Play's ownership of all images. Harassment won't end until removed. Attempts to reason with Play do not help. As a designer, all you have is the visual representation of your work. Prospective employees should question Play's employment contract and avoid signing in current form. Multiple employees, contractors, etc have had to deal with this issue. Play recites the usual "down with pretentiousness" platitudes but their actions demonstrate they're just another greedy company. Protect yourself.
