Good location, friendly clients, interesting mix of people

Management system is AWFUL. Too much backstabbing, one-upman ship and glory hunting. Constantly spoken about behind back, owner is also very rude about people who aren't in her 'world' - multiple staff turn overs over the years. It says a lot when since the company was there, over 10 staff have left. This isn't a fast food outlet with 17 year old cashiers working during college - PR is a serious business and career prospects working here was zero to none. Owner clearly doesn't understand that her employees have a life outside of work - late night emails, multiple texts at sometimes gone 9pm at night. Very highly strung In terms of business practice? Pay is awful, no benefits as you're contracted a 'free lancer' - and management have no structure what so ever - made a big deal about being a working mother, but failed to see that her employees also have a life outside of work, but that's the standard of a lot of middle class, uppity managers - rose tinted glasses. Owner also insulted the entire population of the town which she built her business in, so clearly has no respect for the local community. Work structure was very much "do this, but i'll take all the credit for it" - or the expectation that YOU should know EXACTLY what the owner wants (without so much as even being CC'd into a clients emails!) - failure to do that resulted in passive aggressive text messages, rude exchanged in the office, and eventually being replaced (which explains her high turn over).

Poppy PR is a modern, flexible and friendly company, staffed by experienced freelance journalists and led by a woman whose expertise in PR has seen her appointed as a lecturer at two local universities. The mix of clients is good; the dedication to the needs of each specific client is laudable; and the capacity to generate real stories that busy Editors actually want to publish is first-class . Top place to work.

If you want powder-puff superlatives and sickly sweet non-stories from vacuous PR pros who've never experienced the realities of a Press Room, you'll need to look elsewhere.
