Pros
Most co-workers on the unit I work are hard-working and fun to be around.
Cons
Many are afraid to speak up against the constant understaffing and frequently being forced to take 7 to 8 patients, plus do admits and discharges. The culture appears to have turned into being expected to stay quiet and just be thankful for a job. The manager for the particular unit I work tries to bully the quiet workers, yet is overly friendly with those who flagrantly break policy. I get by ok because I speak up for myself but some don't have the confidence. HR offers NO help. Many formal complaints made about this manager by many people....yet the manager continues on. Management hides in "meetings" when days are really rough offering no communication and even less help. Sad, because I know other people who work in other areas and it is not like this everywhere throughout the hospital. Per diem rate for nurses is currently $30. Kettering offered $32 and $34 depending on agreement over five years ago when I last worked there.
