Pros

Very great company to work for. Though the colleagues were very intelligent tutors everyone was very kind and friendly. You could always ask questions and get an answer without feeling intimidated. The owner was very generous with benefits and free snacks and coffee in the office. The holiday parties were also a plus.

Cons

Honestly cannot think of any cons.

Pros

At the beginning, this job was very rewarding and I was actually excited to come into work every day. The positives were that I learned how to deal with very stressful clients and met some of the smartest people in the industry. Most of the tutors and educational counselors treat you with respect and there is a lot of diversity in terms of educational backgrounds. They are flexible with requesting time off and the benefits are decent.

Cons

New ideas are looked down upon and there’s no room for professional growth. People get offended when you make suggestions to help improve the company. They pick and choose favorites and reward the wrong people. There was no real HR department (that I was aware of), which is ESSENTIAL to any business. There are quite a few people in the company that do not try and this job is not easy. Whenever someone messes up, you are in the direct line of fire without proper training. Tutors are rarely held accountable and it’s not fair for operations to take on the burden of a problem that could have been prevented. *To clarify, most of the people that work at PM are great individuals, but there are a select few that make the job not worthwhile. You have to pay for parking. Someone is always taking on more tasks, but numbers/statistics do not mean a thing and are rarely addressed.

Thanks for your candid and heartfelt feedback. It pains me that you felt underappreciated. You are right: it is unfair that Operational folks should bear the blowback for mistakes they did not create. Although we all have different roles to fill, an organizational chart does confer anyone with the right to treat other colleagues with anything other than respect. As you know, 2020 was an uncommonly challenging environment for all small businesses, and we were no exception. We have taken a number of steps to address the issues you raise. Were you to read this, I would be most grateful if you reached out to me from your new position so I could express my regrets personally. It is always my hope to have colleagues grow and develop in their roles and careers here, advancing professionally and financially as they take on new responsibilities. (As you know, there are folks who have been for years and even decades.) Understandably, that doesn't always happen, and people leave for their own reasons, including for new opportunities, further education, etc. I do hope your time at PrepMatters helped you move forward on your own path. I certainly wish the end of your employment was as fulfilling as your early years. I remain grateful for your help as a colleague and wish you every success.
