Pros
A great institutional history with dedicated financial supporters and some innovative ideas. If you can tolerate the negative work environment, you get to attend an annual gala and watch rich Washingtonians party in formal wear. Believing in the good cause makes accepting the reality so much harder.
Cons
One woman dictatorship with no room for personal growth and a passive-aggressive office culture run by departmental leaders who trash talk each other to their employees all day long. It's exhausting. Professional staff are expected to clean the kitchen. It's easy to get deluded by the noble cause into thinking your work makes a difference but it really doesn't because innovation isn't rewarded and often rejected unless it comes from the top.
