Pros

Like a lot of professional services firm, Protiviti offers a good place to start your career. You have an opportunity to gain practical work experience in a variety of industries and locations. The benefits package is decent and the vacation package is competitive.

Cons

Protiviti was late in adjusting its focus from SOX audit to general consulting services. Over the past two years, the local leadership has been predicting the decline of Sarbanes Oxley related work, yet no apparent shift or adaptation seemed to occur until after the economy began its decline. The firm has been reluctant to invest in it's resilient niche service offerings like IT security, opting instead to keep the entire firm in the same compensation and career model. Locally this has lead to a lot of resignations in the growth areas and a lot of layoffs in the stagnant areas. The shift to general consulting services appears to be more of a marketing move than an operational move, as very few offices and service lines are making the change.

Pros

Compared to other consulting firms, the flexibility in the management here has been amazing. In my experience, teams do whatever they can to get the job done but also acknowledge that we have lives outside of work and are accommodating to that.

Cons

Pay is not competitive compared to other consulting firms and leadership is not as innovative as they could be.
