      Pros

      Flexibility. You have a lot of free time. You get to learn more than at any other time in your life.

      Cons

      Depending on your advisor, you can get a really poor salary. I'm not allowed to select options prior to 2021, but I used to be a grad student researcher in 2007-2013. My advisor paid me 1300 per month, which was quite low even for the time.

      Great collaborative research program with a lot of resources.

      Location is inconvenient. Not much going on besides the university.
