Pros

Pay on time. Nothing else is good here

Cons

Worst place i have worked at. Animal care standards are extremely low (and they are a renowned charity for animal welfare). Their policies are unprofessional, they love to hire people without any experience over experienced people and then you end up with a lot of staff that compromise the animal health and well being because they have no idea what to do. People are lazy and want to get paid for doing nothing. Super toxic environment between all the staff, including management, bullying is allowed and there are no disciplinary actions taken even after years and years of the same toxicity and affecting people's mental health. Good staff leaving because the company cares about preserving useless, incompetent staff than quality staff. If you really love animals and appreciate your mental health, never work with the RSPCA. This charity gets a lot of money but is distributed really badly and animals are the least of their concerns, so they get affected but the company doesn't care. There are people with very high salaries and do nothing of value, they have changed uniforms and re-branded a couple of times wasting money that should be used on the animals. Everything the RSPCA does is just imagine and a lie.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We’re deeply saddened to hear about your experience, as it does not reflect the high standards we strive to uphold. Animal welfare is at the core of our mission, and we take any allegations of compromised care or toxic work environments very seriously. If you would like to discuss this further please email: hradvisoryteam@rspca.org.uk We are grateful for your dedication to animal welfare, and we hope you will continue supporting our shared goal of protecting and caring for animals in need, despite your disappointing experience. Pros

I had a great supervisor, Sally, who ran a tight ship but was also a friendly and helpful mentor and didn't get angry when I made mistakes as I was starting out. I got some experience stocking the shelves, interacting with a variety of customers, and learning the value of merchandise. There's also some opportunities to get cool books, etc. for low prices, especially if no one else wants them.

Cons

I worked as a volunteer, since it's a charity shop, so obviously I didn't get paid. In addition, customers will sometimes have strong body odor, and like any customer service job, you just have to grin and bear it.
