Pros
Animal rehabilitation, unique experience, skin thickening. Some colleagues were genuinely kind, compassionate, and good people.
Cons
Despite there being some truly wonderful members of staff at this branch and unignorable about were cold and unfriendly if not malicious, cruel, and toxic. Management has no idea how to support people with mental health issues or disabilities; I faced stigmatization, bullying, and eventually social isolation due to both management and my peers, management even had the cheek to ask me how they should support people with neurodivergence and/or other associated conditions and disabilities. There was gossiping at all levels of the organization in my unit specifically the staff group chat was used merely as a way for staff to be belittled, criticized, and degraded staff members who were not on-site or working usually about issues that were not brought up by Senior staff or management but was just the impossible standard of peers that they couldn't even hold themselves too. There was poor line management which resulted in nepotism, double standards, and a blind eye turned to bullying of staff when the toxic environment resulted in the resignation of the target of said bullying the antagonising just moved to a new colleague. Management prioritizes keeping face and pushing things under the rug rather than conflict resolution or dealing with issues. I observed the above both first hand and being directed at others both in my unit and others. Not only does this branch have these problems but there is a major disconnect and utter cluelessness about what it is like to be on the frontlines of animal rehabilitation as well as senior colleagues would completely misrepresent dynamics and experiences on the unit to both management and HQ. The bonuses that were provided were either non-existent or just an insult, The RSPCA takes advantage of people's passion and commitment to the animals and the intrinsic reward of helping animals in need to take advantage of their staff and underpay them. Management will use unethical practices to try and push staff out rather than supporting or dealing with problems. My mental health suffered incomprehensibly because of my peers and colleagues. There was a complete lack of mobility within the company, especially when working with the types of animals I was working with. All this doesn't even touch on the painful realization that HQ says this is a charity for animal welfare but its priority is their trustees and the welfare of just dogs.
