A good company that doesn't go anywhere - Engineer Radialpoint Employee Review

Pros

- So many talented people in the office. You can always get technical help from the others. If you a junior, this is a place that you can get knowledge from. - The physical environment is good: great office location; great open-office; great daily benefit (massage, kitchen etc.) - Flexible at work. Work from home is acceptable. - Sales and product delivery know what they are doing.

Cons

- Management is a joke. The company was growing fine in 2016 after the acquisition: people were passionate about what they do and opened to change; however, the management decided to micro-manage the office for some unknown reasons. There was some major loss in the engineering department and the management doesn't seem to care. After many attempts of changing the processes, they still don't understand that they are the problem. - The upper level of the company still thinks that the core business is just selling labours when it is already directly competing in the software industry. Meanwhile, they keep cutting the operation cost in the engineering department. - CEO has ZERO insights on software and has no idea how to manage the company besides saying good words in meetings. - A software company that is totally product driven: product team decides everything regardless of the technology. They do not understand the concept of technical debt, the idea of agile, and the value of software infrastructure. They just want the product works. - The above cons are causing a discouragement on engineering department and a potential long-term damage to the business.

Pros

Radialpoint, now called AppHelp, is a business unit within AppDirect, as the acquisition is fully integrated into the company now. The team that you get to work with, from the engineers to the leadership team, create a great sense of energy and optimism for the future. It's also some of the best people and culture that I've worked with in all of Montreal - Amazing team mentality that gets problems solved - Back to a growth phase in the last 12 months - Management really cares about employee work life balance - Company processes are pretty mature, considering the size of the business unit (consequence of several expansion and contractions over the years for Radialpoint, yet maintaining strong HR policies throughout) - Snacks, team building events, and general sense of belonging to a team - New products and service offerings that challenge the teams to innovate - Competitive compensation

Cons

As with any change to become a growing company, there's always the usual pain points: - Integrating with the larger AppDirect organization and finding out the lay of the land - Adopting new or combing existing processes There's really very few con's to be had, and tons of support systems to help you along the way.
