Pros

The people who work at Ratehub (outside of the upper management/directors and owners/CEO) are what make this company great. My co-workers were absolutely fantastic and really made it worth coming into work.

Cons

While I want to believe that Ratehub has good intentions, their actions and the way they treated employees was pretty awful. During my time at Ratehub there were about 5-6 people that were fired. Apparently there were a few more before I got hired. The majority of these individuals that were let go were extremely hard workers and tried their very best. However, due to not having a trained HR team, poor definitions of role expectations and poor management/leadership skills from product management, marketing and the CEO these individuals were unfortunately cut loose. A few individuals were fired only having been there for 2-3 months which in my opinion is hardly enough time to let someone prove themselves. Ratehub has adopted the Netflix culture guide without the Netflix pay. They only care about results, which sounds great in theory but not when you are expected to work long hours with low to average paying salaries (50-60k) and a constant fear of getting fired. However, probably the biggest con of Ratehub is the illusion they portray about caring about their employees, making employees believe that their feedback is being heard and the distraction of fun parties and alcohol. Aside from the core group of original Ratehub owners, they do not really listen to what their employees say. The CEO listens to her core team of friends and relies on them immensely for judgement calls of employees. While I understand why this might be necessary, it is not always fair or reasonable. I think working at Ratehub would suit someone who is a new grad. Working at Ratehub is great for meeting amazing people and building up your skill set in the short-term or interim. However, I would not recommend individuals work at Ratehub if they would like to a long-term career in the company or expect to stay there for more than 1-2 years. Ratehub is a company where you get in, get your title and some experience and then get out, fast. Do not expect the company to appreciate your efforts (as effort does not count, only results).

Ratehub Response

On behalf of RateHub, and more importantly from me personally, I am sorry about the experience you had while working here. I take feedback like this seriously and have discussed the review with current and past employees to identify what themes and growing pains were experienced across the organization. In a high-growth environment, role definition and responsibilities can be quickly changing and fluid. While this type of environment presents challenges, it’s also what many of our team members identify as one of the most exciting things about working at RateHub. In the past, we didn't always do the best job at identifying who would succeed and be happy in an early stage startup culture. It can be fast-paced and requires all hands on deck. Now, as we enter the scaleup phase, we have and are continuing to make positive improvements with structure, processes and recruiting. As a high-growth company, we need to ensure we have the right resources in place – including management. This is an area we’d identified as high priority and over the last year and a half have made several senior hires to support our growth. I do agree with you that we have an amazing team here who are dedicated to growing the company, adapting and improving along with us. Our people are our greatest asset and we value them immensely. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Alyssa, CEO
