Pros

Science really does drive the company culture. Good work-life balance if you make it. Nice every day perks. Lots of growth over all and exciting prospects.

Cons

The company has had explosive growth in the last few years. Lots of new hires and promotions, especially to management level positions. However, it doesn't seem like managers get appropriate or adequate training in how to actually manage a team. A good scientist doesn't always make a good manager. Favoritism is rampant in my department and people aren't used to their full potential. Another problem with the growth is that we are desperately trying to keep a "startup" culture and flat management structure. That isn't practical when there are more associate directors than people doing the work... The extreme focus on science can lead to deficiencies in other teams, such as HR, legal, IT, ect. Another review mentioned ineffective HR, and that has also been my experience. We are a multi-billion dollar company without basic HR policies for some common "hairy situations." Pay seems competitive but other benefits such as parental leave, 401k, and insurance can lag behind industry standard.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Flexibility of work hours.

Cons

If you're in the wrong group, it's a struggle to get autonomy even when you ask for more oversight of a group or project because micromanaging is an issue. I feel trapped where I am and growth has been stagnant. They also hold a mistake against you for years. Management afraid to give constructive criticism.
