Pros

easy to get hired since they cannot retain staff.

Cons

This place can't retain staff to save their lives. pay is very low. Mandatory work on weekend for every hire. No ifs ands or buts. the men are encouraged to take up forklift driving with no raise in pay whatsoever. management is clueless because they are also a revolving door. Manager was literally outsourced from a different field having no experience in recycling. Turned a well oiled machine (current staff forming bonds and working well together to make things efficient.) into a wasteful, un efficient and nonsensical crapshow. Owner of company refuses to speak to any employees and any who have tried to be friendly towards the owner literally were reprimanded and told "the owner requests that nobody speaks to him" employees are pitted against eachother and encouraged to rat one another out. you are made to feel entitled and rude for taking your two fifteen minute breaks and a lunch. they told me that "we just do lunch and small smoke breaks but no two fifteens" when you were on a "smoke break" you were required to stand in the yard and still assist any customers even though it is technically your break. then they took away smoke breaks completely trying to say people would just stand around smoking. some people were smoking quite often but they still would gun them down quickly and still be helping guests. because of this lack of breaks people had to quickly eat their snacks while working. this then peeved the new manager off so he made an employee handbook detailing how people couldn't eat or smoke on the job but yet we still didn't have 15 min breaks only a lunch. employees were made to sign away their rights or they would be out of a job. i was reprimanded for eating a sandwich in a private area while doing my work. imagine that. nobody was even around and I was taking small bites from my sandwich and then setting it down. while giving my 100 percent energy towards my work. the manager of course threw a fit about this and called me up to his office telling me he was going to be "Shadowing me" and "showing me how to do my job" even tho I had been here way longer than this fool had. on top of that the manager took many early days and outright would leave halfway through the day saying "he is tired". when told that he should stay so he could be shown the lay of the land he just basically said "nah im tired im gonna go home". the same manager who was apparently going to show me how to do my job wasn't even proactive enough to learn how to do his job. the guy was absolutely clueless and it showed every step of the way. the guy is literally going in blind with a huge ego literally getting people to waste time and energy on completely non important issues while the bulk of the proper work and addressing customers falls to complete dissaray. I started to field other job options and told one person there and word got to the manager who pulled me aside and accosted me even tho it was definitely not his business in any way shape or form. unlicensed and high people driving forklifts around (super dangerous) within my first couple days of working there I helped them clean up a massive oil spill in the back lot which was an enormous environmental contamination. they swept it under the rug even tho they 100% should have been calling an oil spill cleanup crew. we spent all day trying to clean the oil up and a ton of it got washed away with the rain into adjacent lot and down into storm drains and storm canals along the property edges. the paychecks are abysmally small. So small that several times all the employees would get together and go over our hours to make sure we werent getting shorted. we all had suspiciously small paychecks it was bizarre. i was working less days and making more at my previous job.

Pros

Easy work environment Relatively good people to work with Sometimes a yearly bonus Christmas gift given each year to all employees (same thing each year) Benefits are fully paid by the company If education is relevant to the job, company will reimburse for it

Cons

Last 6 months have seen a huge turnover in managers. No strong leadership anymore. No training program, no safety orientation. Employees and managers are pushed to maximum capacity every day to where overtime is required and for managers it is unpaid. Managers are expected to be on call 24/7 and work 7 days a week. If you become a manager kiss your vacation goodbye, there will never be coverage for you to take the break and senior management will never help you with it. WorkSafe and labour standards are not met in all locations. They are treated as guidelines and not as the law. They talk a big game about future plans but it's all talk. They will bait you to keep you on and give you that incentive but 6 months down the road you're still in the same spot Lots of opportunity for growth since management doesn't stick around for long
