Dysfunctional Company in a Growing Industry - Pilot Remote Imagery Technologies Employee Review

Pros

You gain a tremendous amount of experience in R&D and Imagery/Surveillance/Reconnaissance with unmanned systems.

Cons

You gain experience by being overseas 6-8 months out of the year in some very unpleasant locations. Unfortunately that time overseas does not equivocate to a better paycheck. The HOURLY pay scale leaves deployed employees receiving significantly less pay than is typical in this industry. Plus you'll be expected to work during your non-deployed time, unlike every other company in the industry. I have to second the previous review in the management/leadership of the company. The people in operational positions of power do not necessarily have the skill set required to make the company run well or efficiently. There isn't a negative atmosphere, just a bit of incompetence. Over an hour commute each way to the actual work site, in the desert. Company offices are at the North Las Vegas Airport but you'll see the office for all of 5 minutes as you're getting into the company van to ride out to the field in the morning. You also don't get paid for your time during the commute. Four day work week but the "10" hour work day is usually more with an additional 2.5-3 hours of commute time.

Pros

Good Benefits, Salary, and Vacation Time

Cons

Promotions come only from longevity rather than competency meaning management is comprised mainly of people who are under qualified and oversee employees who are better educated, have more relevant experience, and are often better equipped to lead than management at the highest levels. There is a ton of travel for months at a time and when you are not traveling, you are commuting 100 miles each way to work from Las Vegas.

Pros

3 day weekends (when you're home)

Cons

Legitimate chance of you getting seriously injured or dying on the job in certain locations. Pay is not competitive. All positions in the company pay MUCH less compared to the similar or same jobs elsewhere. No professional development or career growth. This is not a place where you will learn anything new, or get the opportunity to advance in your career. Promotions are few and are given based on favoritism and longevity, not competence and skills. This is a great job for someone without any drive to do better and is okay with being complacent and content. Benefits such as the 401k are sub-par compared to other employers in the industry. 1.5 hour drive each way to work on a normal day. 3 hours of your day total spent in your car. Not paid correctly for travel trips. Will have you working up to 16 hour days and only compensate you for 8. You will spend months (3-4) away from home in horrible places all while companies doing similar or the same job are compensating their employees far better in terms of both benefits and pay. Complete lack of leadership in most departments. From Admin all the way down to Maintenance, there is a lack of good judgment, morals, and competence. A majority of the work here does not count in any way shape of form towards currency in regards to any aviation certificates (Pilot certs - hr building, Aircraft Maintenance - AP/IA)
