Pros
By far the best team oriented work experience I've ever had. Other companies say they're like a family. My whole team actually feels like family. Semi-liveable base pay. No competition for sales, Bonuses paid base on free quotes (set appointments that demo). Normal work schedule starts later in the day depending on time of year (ex. Spring/Summer 11am-7pm). No starting at 7am exhausted. Usually don't deal with rush-hour traffic to and from work. Fantastic light excercise (walking up to 10 miles/day)
Cons
Not a lot of work-life balance. Work starts at 11, but to see real success, make "cold calls" from home starting at 7am and during any downtime throughout the day/weekend. (Phone numbers and names generated by proxys like Angie's list, etc). Processes for setting appointments change way too often to build a routine which translates to a decline in efficiency and professionalism at the door. Not a job for those who are easily offended or can't take potential verbal aggression from homeowners when knocking. Proximity department and In Home Sales department DO NOT see eye to eye. We are specifically trained and paid bonuses to get a sales person in the door (doesn't matter if homeowner buys) but Sales people want/need quality set appointments to produce sales and hit quota. (Ex. I set an app for a new homeowner for an energy efficiency test to see IF any windows are inefficient without seeing damage/issues with a window but they have drafts from somewhere. Salesperson arrives, sees nothing wrong, doesn't give a quote, inputs app as a "No Demo" and my numbers decline.) BIGGEST CONCERN: Boss makes promises to promote within 1 year if quota is consistently hit. 1 year later, consistency looks good, proven track record achieved, Boss says "good job, reach this new, higher quota for 6 more months and you'll be promoted". 6 months later, higher quota consistently hit. "OK just 6 more months to go". All the while, $1 raise, no extra bonuses. Management absolutely lies about promoting from within, because it is unattainable for anyone with any kind of life outside of work. Have kids? Forget this job. Have friends? You won't see them for months on end. Need sleep? Why sleep when you could be making calls. (Exaggerating only a little)
