Pros

Insurance was affordable, great short term disability, good call in pay policy at my plant, love how I had cold weather gear. I had made a lot of money as an operator

Cons

Different policies from plant to plant, such a big corporation people may feel like pawn pieces and company doesn't care. Excessive overtime keeping you away from family

Maintaining work-life balance can be challenging during peak outage seasons due to extended hours and frequent travel

Pros

The shift supervisor role consists of busy days with a lot of varying priorities. You are responsible for emissions regulation, work permits, specialized permits, managing changing plant conditions, and administrative personnel requirements. This can be a high-octane role but has a more relaxed period on night shift and when outages aren't occurring (planned shutdowns for maintenance). Expect to drive plant performance and employee development. Many opportunities for professional and personal development if you put the time in.

Cons

The plant culture will play a huge role in your quality of life, since most of your time will be at the plant. This can be good or bad. Quite a few managers do not engage or develop personnel due to various qualities. You will have to do the leg work in fostering a change for personnel development.
